FAIRMONT
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
BENEFITS OF SCHOOL UNIFORMS
We believe
that- School is a student’s “work place.”
Consequently we believe that uniforms:
1. reflect
a seriousness of purpose.
2. remove
the status that clothing labels give to some children.
3. reduce
disciplinary concerns.
4. can be
a more cost effective investment for parents.
5. make it
easier and faster to prepare for school in mornings.
6. make it
easier for school officials to identify intruders on the campus.
7. reduce
harassment.
8. make it
more difficult for students to identify with negative groups or
gangs.
9.
eliminate the problem of frequent dress code revisions.
10.
provide a more stable environment, better meeting the needs of
students during
the tumultuous pre-adolescent years.
11.
promote school spirit and pride.
12.
prepare students for similar expectations in the work world.
FAIRMONT DRESS STANDARDS
(2004 -
2005)
I. Guidelines for
Students in Uniform
Fairmont’s dress standards have been
established in order to promote high expectations for behavior
and academic performance.
·
Children should come to school dressed
appropriately for the task of learning,
demonstrating their awareness of the importance of education.
·
All clothing should be in good repair and of
appropriate size.
1. Top wear: Uniform top wear
includes:
·
White, ash, navy, or burgundy short-sleeve polo
shirt with a Fairmont logo
·
Fairmont uniform T-shirts (spirit day shirts worn
on Fridays only)
·
Crew neck sweatshirts with a Fairmont logo
·
White collared blouses
·
White, ash, navy, or burgundy turtlenecks
·
All sweatshirts: crew, zippered, and
hooded must be uniform sweatshirts
with the
Fairmont Logo or plain navy blue, burgundy, or
gray sweatshirts with no logos.
All top wear must be
size-appropriate and must be tucked in at the waist.
Sweatshirts do not
need to be tucked in.
2. Outerwear: Jackets and
sweaters, since they are worn outside, do not need to have the
Fairmont logo. Uniform top wear
must be worn under the outerwear.
3. Bottom wear: Uniform bottom
wear consists of plain navy blue pants or khaki tan pants with
no appliqués
or colorful designs and walking shorts for boys and girls, as
well as navy blue or khaki capri pants, skorts, skirts, and
jumpers for girls. Long pants and walking shorts may be made of
cotton or cotton blends, corduroy, or dark blue denim (not
stone-washed, light blue). Skorts and jumpers
may be made of cotton, cotton
blends, corduroy, or dark denim. Shorts, skirts, and skorts
must
not be shorter than mid-thigh.
Overalls will not be a part of the Fairmont uniform.
